Acute Care / Hospital

Span-America is a pioneer and market leader in surface, seating and positioner design. Our ACUTE CARE products are the clinician’s ally in the prevention of hospital acquired (nosocomial) infections and NEVER EVENTS.

Custom Care® Convertible Series:
The Custom Care® Convertible series is designed for ease and flexibility of treatment as well as cost efficiency. As patients improve, stepping down from powered therapy is a simple matter of removing the control unit, an approach that can save significantly on rental costs.  This product is one of 5 available in models to fit recessed deck frames.

UltraMax™:
Innovative design sets UltraMax™ apart from typical reactive surfaces and enables it to exceed even the most rigorous requirements of the acute health care setting. The unique new Geo-Mattress® UltraMax™ reactive surface with 3-Dimensional Zoning™ offers protection to the seat section against “bottoming out” even during repeated head and foot of bed elevating. The UltraMax™ bi-directional stretch cover prevents heels, sacrum, and scapula from “digging into” the surface, gliding the user back to the original position following head of bed elevation instead.  This product is one of 5 available in models to fit recessed deck frames

Geo-Matt®:
The exclusive Geo-Matt® design four inch therapeutic seat cushion with Ring-of-Air® ventilation provides outstanding pressure reduction and comfort. Individually responsive cells cradle bony prominences and reduce shearing.

Span+Aids®:
Span+Aids®, have been developed in conjunction with nurses, therapists, and surgeons, and are notable as the industry’s first-ever line of patient positioners that are specific to certain body sites. Span+Aids® are the most innovative, the most widely recognized, and the most relied upon patient positioners anywhere.

Surgical and Post-op:
Surgical and post-op including Open Heart Surgery Kit, leg elevators, O.R. pads/pillows, elbow/heel protectors and abduction pillows

Extremities:
Extremities including Foot Drop Stop, Cradle Boot, Limb Elevator, Leg Trough, Upper Limb Positioner, Splint

Long-Term Care

Science. Safety. Simplicity. These are the hallmarks of our product line for long term care. Span-America manufactures a comprehensive series of powered and non-powered support surfaces, overlays and seating to give the clinician the needed options in addressing integrity of the skin and deep tissues.

PressureGuard® APM2:
The PressureGuard® APM2 offers the long-term care clinician two distinct therapy modes – alternating pressure and lateral rotation at the click of a switch. Real value is added with the PressureGuard® comfort and safety features including the proven Geo-Matt® anti-shearing top surface and two-part Safety Edge™ bolster system for fall prevention.

APM2  Safety Supreme:
The APM2  Safety Supreme adds even more features to this series’ technological advantages. Among additional design highlights are raised edges that increase patient safety from falls and entrapment complications that may arise through the use of restraints and side-rails.

Protocol
The PressureGuard® Protocol® provides an unmatched combination of microclimate management, pressure redistribution, ease of use and patient/caregiver safety. Its efficient design generates substantially less heat and noise than traditional “roll-up” low air loss surfaces while consuming less power.

Custom Care® Convertible Series:
Our respected PressureGuard® family of powered and non-powered surfaces has grown with the launch of the Custom Care® Convertible series. Built on PressureGuard’s proven technology, the Custom Care Convertible’s engineered step down facility assures adequate and even pressure when the surface becomes non-powered.

Custom Care® Convertible
A feature of the Custom Care® Convertible is its additional clinician-acclaimed anti-shear feature, the Shear Transfer Zones®.

Custom Care® Convertible LAL
The Custom Care® Convertible LAL provides low-air-loss technology in a convertible surface.

Geo-Mattress® Max®
The non-powered Geo-Mattress® Max®  is part of an exclusive series of therapeutic foam mattresses. Leading the list of features is the clinically proven, anti-shearing Geo-Matt® topper with unique geometric design consisting of over 800 individual cells each of which acts individually to redistribute pressure, to reduce heat and moisture buildup on the skin, and to reduce shear to underlying tissues. All Geo-Mattresses feature vapor barrier, bacteriostatically treated covers and have a weight limit of 400 Lbs. See the Geo-Mattress Atlas® for bariatric support up to 600 Lbs.

Geo-Mattress with Wings®
The Geo-Mattress with Wings® offers raised perimeter protection (8″ high) in a non-powered surface. By gently urging the user away from the edge of the bed this surface helps decrease the risk of accidental falls and reduces the possibility of side-rail entrapment by filling in the space between the bottom of the side rail and the surface.

There are many products available to protect heels.  None provides the combination of superior design features delivered by Heel Manager™.

• Fully offloads heels with skin-friendly design
• Extreme comfort and support for both legs
• Wider – up to 30% more surface area
• Shear Transfer Zone® cover technology
• Heat and moisture reduction capabilities

Span-America’s extensive line of seat cushions addresses patient comfort as well as wound treatment, skin protection and positioning.

Geo-Matt® PRT
The Geo-Matt® PRT is a therapeutic seat cushion and at 3 inches tall, is a modification of the exclusive Geo-Matt design. This creates the lower, firmer base needed by many wheelchair users for safe transfers, easier propulsion, and better fit into the wheelchair/cushion system.

Short-Wave®
The convenient one-piece Short-Wave® with unique segmented fins is specifically engineered to provide relief and address the effects of shearing and sitting-induced pressure.

Geo-Wave® Specialty Recliner Cushion
The Geo-Wave® Specialty Recliner Cushion
is designed to address the effects of shearing induced by reclining, which is typical of institutional seating. The Geo-Wave reduces pressure for the user in the upright or reclined position.

EZ-Dish™
The EZ-Dish™ provides a simpler, non-fitted seating solution for those at high risk for pressure ulcers at the ischium or coccyx. This pressure relief cushion, which is available in four standard sizes, is modeled after the company’s original Isch-Dish®.

The Risk Manager is a new concept in bedside safety mats which provides excellent support in long-term care where patient safety from falls is in sharp focus.

Risk Manager and new Risk Manager XL
The Risk Manager and new Risk Manager XL are unlike other fall pads which are made from scrap foam carpet underlayment. The Risk Manager is engineered from elastomeric gel compound with a non-slip, textured top surface and non-skid, slide-resistant bottom surface.

Our many years of bed engineering skill, research and clinical feedback have been taken to the next level in the design of the Encore and Advantage ReadyWide beds, with innovative features that address some of long-term care’s persistent challenges.

ENCORE BED
The Encore is our premium bed, providing measurably improved levels of care and comfort for the user and better ergonomics and protection from injury for the caregiver.  Many key features are included as standard and its accessory line-up includes width and length options that make it well-suited to nearly any mattress and most potential users in its market.

Hospice Care

Within our product series are proven solutions for the Hospice palliative care environment, each designed for exceptional patient comfort and pain management care.

New to our surfaces series is the non-powered Custom Care®, a feature-rich but cost-effective reactive pressure redistribution surface for hospice providers.

PressureGuard® Custom Care®
The PressureGuard® Custom Care® combines an innovative outer bi-directional stretch cover featuring Shear Transfer Zones® with a long line of proven structural advances. These include a reactive support chamber system for exceptional pressure management performance, supportive Safety Edge™ and the unique Geo-Matt® top. In peer-reviewed studies, PressureGuard non-powered and powered surfaces outperformed traditional powered surfaces in wound healing through Stage IV.

We manufacture a broad spectrum of innovative seating solutions to achieve important care objectives. Our designs are aimed at complete pressure removal at ulcer sites, chronic pain relief, therapeutic positioning, pressure ulcer prevention, or simple comfort.

Geo-Matt®
The clinically proven Geo-Matt® seat cushion with Ring-of-Air® ventilation provides outstanding pressure reduction and comfort. Individually responsive cells cradle bony prominences and reduce shearing.

Home Care

An outstanding feature of the Span-America Homecare product series is our ability to supply three of our popular PressureGuard® mattress systems in king, queen, full, full long or dual (split) king sizes to accommodate users who are not comfortable on standard-sized mattresses. Designed for ease of use in the home-care setting, this series includes surfaces that can accommodate two adults. When supplied for two adults, half of the surface is outfitted to deliver dynamic air therapy while the remainder provides only static air support. Special In-home choices include these PressureGuard® surfaces – the APM², and CFT®. Many of our products in the seating and support surfaces categories are recognized under the Medicare program and coded for reimbursement.

PressureGuard® APM²
The PressureGuard® APM² offers two distinct therapy modes – alternating pressure and lateral rotation – at the click of a switch. Real value is added with the PressureGuard® comfort and safety features including the proprietary Geo-Matt® anti-shearing top surface and two-part Safety Edge™ bolster system for fall prevention.

PressureGuard Easy Air®
The PressureGuard Easy Air® is independently documented to outperform every other low-air- loss-system. Clinicians choose low-air-loss therapy to address maceration, the weakening of the skin due to excess moisture. Two additional models expand the Easy Air series; the Easy Air LR adds lateral rotation making documented effective continuous lateral rotation therapy (CLRT) possible. Easy Air XL 1000 provides low-air-loss and alternating pressure therapies for the Bariatric Patient up to 1000 lbs. The Easy Air is not limited by the compromises low-air-loss users have come to accept. The outstanding features that distinguish the Easy air include its exclusive Air Diffusion Matrix, PressureGuard air/foam design and its Safety Edge™ which won’t collapse like air-only mattresses can. In addition to low-air-loss, the efficient control unit also powers relieving alternating pressure therapy. Like many of our products, the Easy Air is recognized for reimbursement under Medicare Code.

Geo-Mattress® HC
The Geo-Mattress® HC is specifically designed for the needs of the at-home patient to minimize the risk of skin breakdown. Easily folded and boxed for convenient shipping and storage, this therapeutic mattress, with 250 lbs. capacity, features a segmented top surface, 5″ height, and fluid-proof cover. For non-powered home care of heavier patients, see our 6” Geo-Mattress® 350.

The design science in our comprehensive seat cushion series is focused on important Medicare-defined areas of wound treatment, positioning, wound prevention and comfort. For the bariatric patient we also offer three options for seating the patient who weighs up to 500 lbs.

Short-Wave Cushion
The convenient one-piece Short-Wave Cushion with unique segmented fins is specifically engineered to provide relief and address the effects of shearing and sitting-induced pressure.

Isch-Dish
The Isch-Dish for treatment and positioning of those with, or at high risk of, pressure ulcers at the ischium or coccyx is unlike products that merely equalize pressures across the seating surface. The Isch-Dish is documented as an important complement to wound treatment, and for long term prevention. The unique, open pocket design actually eliminates pressure at the ulcer site while ventilating heat and moisture.

Rehab Care

Our product series includes carefully engineered surfaces, seating and positioners for the rehab patient. Documented powered therapies are combined with important fall prevention safety features in our PressureGuard® surface series. Proven Geo-Matt top surface science supports healing of macerated skin.

Equalizer®
The Equalizer® contoured positioning cushion features an ultra-comfortable viscoelastic “memory foam” top, a contoured foundation layer for proper positioning of the legs, and an extra-soft relief zone for high risk bony prominences. Three zones of a proprietary, gel-like soft polymer provide added pressure dispersion under the thighs, greater trochanters, and ischial/tailbone region. The moisture-resistant cover has a rugged nylon bottom with a 2-way stretch fabric top and convenient front carry handle. The Equalizer is available in four standard sizes with an average weight of just 4 pounds. Also available in bariatric sizes.

Case Manager

Our series of surfaces, seating products and positioners are designed to meet many of the challenges of catastrophic care. Span-America engineers have even taken on the challenge of making the catastrophic patient as comfortable as possible at home.

Because our products are manufactured modularly in our 200,000 square foot plant in South Carolina, we are able to build support surfaces that allow a couple to continue to share a bed. Designed for ease of use in the home-care setting, these surfaces can be ordered in king, queen, full, full long or dual (split) king sizes to accommodate users who are not comfortable on standard-sized mattresses. Half of the surface can be outfitted to deliver dynamic air therapy while the remainder provides only static air support for the non-patient. Special in-home options which are recognized under the Medicare program and coded for reimbursement include this PressureGuard® model:
